The Kerry Central Regional Water Supply Scheme, valued at €30 million, ensures a sustainable, high-quality water supply for over 62,000 people across key towns in County Kerry, including Tralee, Killarney, Castleisland, and Castlemaine. The scheme serves both residential communities and vital sectors such as agriculture and tourism, which are central to the region’s economy.
The Lough Guitane Water Treatment Plant, one of Ireland’s largest, has been significantly upgraded to include a cryptosporidium barrier and more advanced treatment processes. The project modernized the raw water abstraction facilities, filtration, disinfection systems, and clear water storage. As a result, it provides 51 million liters of treated drinking water every day.
This critical project successfully removed the region from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Remedial Action List (RAL), ensuring a safer water supply and improved environmental standards. The project was delivered on schedule, within budget, and has been recognized as the Engineering Project of the Year at the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards 2018.
Petruf Consulting supported this project with precise engineering solutions that contributed to the project’s overall success, enhancing both the infrastructure and quality of life for local communities.
