The development at 60 Dawson Street features a multi-storey retail and office building, where Keegan Precast supplied and designed the precast concrete walls for Sisk. Given the site’s tight footprint bordered by roads, existing structures, and Luas tracks with overhead lines the project demanded careful coordination to ensure efficient deliveries and seamless installation.
Structural Idealisation
• Precast Walls:
o Designed to support in-situ concrete slabs and structural elements
o Provide both vertical load-bearing capacity and lateral stability
o Include both internal and external precast concrete walls, tailored to site requirements
• Transfer of Loads:
o Vertical Loads: Precast walls transfer loads from in-situ slabs and other structural components down to the foundations.
o Horizontal Loads: The building is designed as a braced structure, where precast shear walls provide lateral stability.
• Temporary & Permanent Stability:
o During erection, temporary propping ensured stability until final connections were completed.
o In the permanent condition, RC slabs act as a diaphragm, transferring horizontal forces to precast shear walls for stability.
This project highlights the benefits of precast construction in urban environments, where speed, precision, and logistical efficiency are essential.
