The Townsend Street Development is a landmark mixed-use project in Dublin’s city center, contributing to the area’s urban regeneration. Combining residential, commercial, and community spaces, it enhances the city’s modern landscape.

Hotel Travelodge  is an eight-storey hotel designed with a precast concrete crosswall structure, incorporating wideslab units and precast concrete stairs. To ensure overall structural integrity, in-situ concrete rib beams, slabs, and columns—designed by others—are also integrated into the structure. The project consists of Block 3 and Block 4, both utilizing solid precast concrete walls for internal and external elements.

Structural Engineering Scope
Flooring System

Precast concrete wideslab units with structural screed topping provide efficient load transfer.
Slabs are simply supported on precast concrete walls and in-situ concrete beams, ensuring a robust structural system.
Main Structural Walls

Precast concrete walls serve as primary supports for wideslab units, stair landings, and other framing elements.
They also play a crucial role in lateral stability, contributing to the overall resilience of the building.
Load Transfer & Stability

Vertical Loads: Distributed through precast concrete wideslabs, supported by walls and beams.
Horizontal Loads: Consideration of wind load and notional horizontal load through a braced system.
In the temporary erection phase, stability is achieved via temporary propping until full connections are completed.
In the permanent condition, the screeded wideslab units act as a diaphragm, transferring horizontal forces to precast concrete shear walls for structural reinforcement.
This innovative engineering approach ensures durability, efficiency, and stability for the Townsend Street hotel project, demonstrating the advantages of precast concrete construction in large-scale developments.
